What happens when I run out of credits?

Screening pauses until your credits refresh or you top up. On Core and up, extra screening is billed at $0.25 per credit. Starter is a hard cap with no overages.

Each plan comes with a monthly pool of credits, shared across resume screening, one-way interviews, and assessments. When your pool runs low, what happens depends on your plan. On Core, Team, and Scale, extra screening keeps working and is billed at a flat $0.25 per credit. On Starter, the pool is a hard cap: new screening pauses until your credits refresh on your billing anniversary. Either way, everything you've already collected stays fully accessible.

What uses credits

A credit is charged only when a screening gives you a result to act on.

  • Resume screened by AI Match — 1 credit.

  • Assessed candidate (Personality, Work Scenarios, and Environment Fit) — 2 credits.

  • Completed one-way interview — 5 credits.

Invites that are never opened, and interviews a candidate starts but doesn't finish, don't use credits. Reopening a result you already paid for never charges you twice.

What happens when the pool runs low

  • On Core, Team, and Scale — screening continues without interruption. Extra credits past your monthly pool are billed at a flat $0.25 per credit, so a busy week never blocks a candidate.

  • On Starter — Starter is a hard cap with no overages. When the pool is empty, new completions pause for the rest of the cycle. Candidates can still start, and their progress is saved, but new results are held until your credits refresh or you upgrade.

  • Your existing candidates stay accessible — every video, transcript, AI summary, and match score you've already collected stays available for review, on every plan.

How to see how many credits you have left

Your remaining credits are shown in the dashboard header and on the Settings → Billing & Subscriptions page. Your pool refreshes on your billing anniversary, the same day of the month each month (monthly plan) or each year (annual plan). On Core and up, unused credits roll over for 12 months, capped at 3 times your monthly pool.

If you need more credits

Options, in order of urgency:

  • Upgrade your plan — a larger pool takes effect immediately, including for any candidates held at a Starter cap. Go to Settings → Billing & Subscriptions.

  • Let overage cover it (Core and up) — extra screening is billed at $0.25 per credit, so you don't have to do anything to keep going.

  • Wait for the refresh — on Starter, held candidates can finish once your pool refreshes on your billing anniversary.

  • Close the position — if you're done hiring for a role, close the position to stop new invites. See How do I close or archive a position?.

Trial accounts work the same way at the trial's 30-credit pool. Running low on trial credits is usually a signal to pick a plan. See What plans does Truffle offer and how does billing work?.
