What happens when I hit my monthly interview limit?

At 150 completed interviews, new completions pause for the rest of the cycle. No surprise charges. Candidates can still start but won't complete until the cycle resets or you upgrade.

Updated today

For employers approaching the cap on their Truffle plan.

Essentials includes 150 completed candidate interviews per month. When you hit that number, Truffle pauses new completions for the rest of your billing cycle. You're not charged extra, and you don't lose access to anything you've already collected. The cycle resets on your billing anniversary, at which point new completions are accepted again. If you need headroom sooner, upgrade to Custom for a volume-based cap.

What counts toward the limit

Only completed interviews count. The things that don't count are often the high-volume ones:

  • Invited but not started. Zero impact.

  • Started but not completed. Zero impact.

  • Demo interview on your dashboard. Zero impact.

  • Preview interviews you run on your own positions. Zero impact.

A completion is counted the moment a candidate sees the Success screen at the end of the flow. The same candidate completing a second interview (for a different position) counts as two.

What happens at the cap

The moment the 150th completion lands:

  • New candidates can still start the interview. You don't lose your invite links.

  • New completions are blocked. A candidate trying to submit will see a message telling them the company's capacity is full for the cycle. Their progress is saved.

  • Your existing candidates remain fully accessible. Every video, transcript, AI summary, and match score already collected stays available for review.

  • No extra charges. Truffle doesn't auto-bill overages on Essentials.

If a candidate is blocked from completing, they'll finish automatically when you either (1) upgrade to Custom, or (2) wait for the cycle to reset and ask them to return to their invite link.

How to see how much of the limit you've used

Your usage against the monthly cap is visible in the dashboard header and on the Settings → Billing & Subscriptions page. The cap resets on your billing anniversary. The same day of the month each month (monthly plan) or each year (annual plan).

If you need more headroom

Options, in order of urgency:

  • Upgrade to Custom. Contact sales for volume pricing. New cap applies immediately, including for the candidates who were held at the limit.

  • Wait for the cycle reset. Existing candidates who were blocked can come back to their invite link on or after the reset date and complete at that point.

  • Close the position. If you've hit the cap and are done hiring for that role, close the position to stop new invites. See How do I close or archive a position?.

Trial accounts follow the same rule at the lower trial cap (5 completed interviews). Hitting the trial limit is usually a signal to pick a paid plan. See What plans does Truffle offer and how does billing work?.
