Position expiry lets a position close itself on a date you choose. You set an Application deadline, and when that date and time pass, Truffle automatically stops the position from accepting new candidates and marks it as Expired. This is different from closing a position by hand and from a per-candidate completion deadline. This article explains all three so you can tell them apart.
Where to set the application deadline
You can set the application deadline when you create a position or later from the position's settings.
While creating a position — on Define the role, open Add optional details (department, location), turn on the Application deadline toggle, then pick a date, time, and timezone.
After the position is live — open the position, open Position Settings, and find the Application Deadline card under Candidate experience. Turn on Set application deadline and choose the date, time, and timezone.
The deadline must be a time in the future. Truffle stores the exact moment you pick, so the position expires at that date and time in the timezone you selected.
What happens when a position expires
Once the deadline passes, Truffle flips the position to an Expired status. In your Positions list the position shows a red Expired label. From that point on:
New candidates can't apply. Anyone who opens the position's share link sees an "Application deadline has passed" message telling them to contact the employer directly.
You can't send new invites. Truffle blocks invites for an expired position.
Candidates who had a link but hadn't finished are stopped too. When they try to start or continue, they see that the application deadline for the position has passed.
All the candidates who already completed their interviews stay in your dashboard. You can still review them, change their statuses, and make decisions. Expiry only affects new and in-progress applications, not the ones already collected.
Changing or removing the deadline
You can change the deadline at any time before it passes. Open Position Settings, then on the Application Deadline card use Edit to pick a new date, time, and timezone, or use Remove to clear the deadline so the position no longer expires on its own.
For a position that has already expired, open its menu in the Positions list and choose Reopen. Reopening clears the old deadline and starts accepting candidates again. You can also choose Close Job to close it formally instead.
The three time controls, side by side
Truffle has three separate controls for time, and it's easy to mix them up:
Application deadline (position expiry) — one date for the whole position. When it passes, the position expires automatically and stops taking any new candidates. Set it on Define the role or in Position Settings.
Completion deadline (per invite) — an optional, per-candidate deadline you set when you invite someone. It controls when that one candidate must finish their interview by and doesn't affect anyone else or the position itself.
Closing a position — a manual action with no date attached. You close a position yourself when you've hired or paused the role.
Note: the application deadline expires a position on its own; closing is something you do by hand. A completion deadline only ever affects the single candidate it was set for.
