How do I create a new position?

Open Positions, click Create position, and walk through the 4-step wizard to set up, build, configure, and activate a position.

To create a position, open Positions in the sidebar and click + Create position. Truffle walks you through a 4-step flow. Define the role, Build the screen, Configure screening, Review and activate. The key step is Build the screen: that's where you pick which components the position has. A position can be a video interview only, an assessments-only screen, qualification checks alone, or any mix.

The 4 steps

Each step collects one slice of the position's setup. You can go back and forward freely until you activate.

  1. Define the role. Title, description, optional details (department, employment type, location), and the role brief.

  2. Build the screen. Pick which components this position includes: resume scoring, qualification checks, video interview, assessments.

  3. Configure screening. Configure each component you turned on in Step 2.

  4. Review and activate. Double-check everything, preview the candidate experience, publish.

Step 1: Define the role

On Step 1, enter the core facts about the role.

  • Position title. Be specific ("Sales Account Executive", not "Sales"). Title is shown to candidates and factors into AI question suggestions.

  • Position description. Paste your JD. Truffle's AI reads it to suggest interview questions and to calibrate match scoring. More detail = better suggestions.

  • Optional details. Department, employment type (full-time, part-time, contract), work arrangement (remote, hybrid, on-site), location. These are optional but help with AI tuning and candidate-side clarity.

  • Role brief. Three short optional questions that sharpen resume criteria, interview questions, and candidate matching. The brief sits in a collapsible section that shows a completion badge once you've answered. See How do I personalize Truffle's AI for my position?.

Click Next to move to Step 2.

Step 2: Build the screen

This is the step that makes positions modular. Each component appears as a card with a toggle; turn on only the components you want candidates to complete.

Each card shows a credit cost chip so you can see what that component costs per candidate, and the step shows a running summary of the screening funnel you're building.

Any combination is valid. A position with only assessments (no video) is fine. A position with only qualification checks is fine. Mix and match for what the role actually needs. See Can I screen candidates without a video interview?.

Step 3: Configure screening

Step 3 shows a panel for each component you turned on. Only the components you enabled in Step 2 appear here. Configure each one. Questions for the video interview, scenarios for Work Scenarios, trait preferences for Personality, and so on. Each component has its own article linked above.

Step 4: Review and activate

Step 4 is the final check. Expand each section to verify what's configured. From here you can also:

Click Activate position when you're ready. While the position activates, Truffle generates role-calibrated evaluation rubrics for every question from your job description and role brief; you'll briefly see a building screen while this runs. Once active, Truffle gives you a share link you can send to candidates or post on job boards, plus a hosted public job page. See How do I publish my job page?.
