How do I connect Truffle to Ashby?

Connect Ashby on any paid plan. Create an Ashby API key, paste it into Truffle, then paste your Truffle key back into Ashby.

Connecting Truffle to Ashby lets you run Truffle screenings from inside Ashby and see the results on the candidate's Ashby profile, without switching tabs. Setup is a one-time handshake: you create an API key in Ashby, paste it into Truffle, then paste the Truffle key Truffle gives you back into Ashby. You need Ashby admin access and a paid Truffle plan.

Before you start

To connect Ashby, make sure you have:

  • Ashby admin access — creating API keys and adding an assessment partner are admin actions in Ashby.

  • A paid Truffle plan — the Ashby integration is available on any paid plan. On a trial, the Ashby card shows as locked with the label Available on paid plans.

You set this up once. After it is connected, recruiters work entirely inside Ashby.

Step 1: Enable the Truffle and Ashby integration

The connection is a three-part handshake between the two products. You create a key in Ashby, exchange it for a Truffle key, then hand the Truffle key back to Ashby. Follow the parts in order.

Part A: Create an API key in Ashby

In Ashby, go to Admin → Integrations → API Keys and create a key for Truffle.

  1. Click + New to open the Create an API key wizard.

  2. On the Integration Partner step, name the key (for example, "Truffle") and select Truffle as the Integration Partner. Continue to the next step.

  3. On the API Scopes step, leave the permissions as they are (Ashby pre-fills them based on Truffle's requirements) and continue.

  4. On the API Key step, copy the key, then click Copy and Close.

Important: Ashby shows the key only once. Copy it before you close the wizard. If you lose it, create a new key.

Part B: Paste the Ashby key into Truffle

In Truffle, open the Ashby card and paste the key you just copied.

  1. Click the Integrations icon in the sidebar (jigsaw puzzle).

  2. On the Ashby card, click Connect. The Connect Ashby window opens.

  3. Paste your key into the Ashby API key field.

  4. Click Connect.

Part C: Copy your Truffle key and paste it back into Ashby

When the key is accepted, Truffle generates a key of its own for Ashby to use. The window changes to Ashby connected and shows your Truffle key.

  1. Under Your Truffle key, click the copy button.

  2. In Ashby, go to Admin → Integrations → Integrations and search for Truffle.

  3. Open Truffle, paste the key into the Truffle API Key field, and save.

Important: Truffle shows your Truffle key only once, for security. Copy it before you close the window. If you miss it, use Reconnect on the Ashby card to generate a new one (see Manage the connection).

That is the full handshake. Once Ashby has the Truffle key, the connection is live and the Ashby card in Truffle shows Connected.

Step 2: Add Truffle to a job's interview plan

To screen candidates with Truffle, add it as an activity on a job's interview plan in Ashby. Do this once per job that should use Truffle.

  1. In Ashby, open the job and go to its Interview Plan.

  2. On the stage where the screening should run, add an activity and select Truffle. The Add Truffle Activity panel opens.

  3. Under Assessment Type, choose which Truffle screening to use. Each of your Truffle positions appears here.

  4. Save the interview plan.

Step 3: Send and review a screening

Once Truffle is on the interview plan, recruiters work entirely inside Ashby. Sending a screening and reading the results both happen on the candidate's Ashby profile.

  • Send the screening — from the candidate's Ashby profile, send the Truffle screening. Truffle emails the candidate the screener link directly.

  • Review the results — when the candidate finishes, their status and scores post back to their Ashby profile automatically. There is nothing to copy across.

  • Cancel a screening — cancelling the screening in Ashby disqualifies the candidate's Truffle application.

Manage the connection

The Ashby card in Truffle shows the health of the connection and lets you refresh or remove it. You manage everything from Integrations → Ashby.

Connection status

The card shows a status pill and when results last flowed:

  • Connected (green) — the integration is healthy.

  • Degraded (amber) — results are flowing but Truffle has seen a problem. Check the message on the card.

  • Action needed (red) — results have stopped. Check the message on the card, and reconnect if needed.

The card also shows Last activity with a date, or No activity yet if no screenings have run.

Reconnect

Reconnect re-opens the connect flow and generates a brand-new Truffle key.

Important: After you reconnect, paste the new Truffle key into Ashby. The old key stops working the moment you reconnect, so results stop flowing until Ashby has the new one.

Disconnect

Disconnect revokes the Truffle key for your workspace immediately and stops results from flowing back to Ashby. This cannot be undone. You can reconnect later, but you will need to paste a new key into Ashby.
