Can I screen candidates without a video interview?

Yes. Video is an optional component. Publish a position with assessments only, resume scoring only, or any mix you choose.

Yes. The video interview is one optional component of a position, not a requirement. You can publish a position with assessments only, video only, or any mix of resume scoring, qualification checks, video interview, and assessments. Leave the video toggle off on the Build the screen step and Truffle adapts the rest of the product to the components you did turn on.

How to set up a position without video

You choose components on the Build the screen step of position creation. Each component appears as a card with a toggle.

  1. In the sidebar, open Positions and click + Create position, or open an existing position you want to edit.

  2. On the Build the screen step, leave the Video interview card toggled off.

  3. Toggle on the components you want instead: Assessments, Resume scoring, or Qualification checks.

  4. Configure each component you turned on, then activate the position.

Each component card shows a credit cost chip, so you can see what screening one candidate costs before you commit, and the step shows a running summary of the funnel you're building.

What adapts when there's no video

Every surface adjusts to the components the position actually measures, so an assessment-only position never looks half-configured.

  • Candidate list — sorts by assessment signal instead of an interview score

  • Candidate emails — invitations and reminders never mention a video interview on assessment-only positions

  • Shared candidate links — show assessment cards to the people you share with

  • Magic Review — assessment cards become the primary surface for review

When to screen without video

An assessment-only or resume-plus-assessments screen is a good fit when:

  • You're screening a high volume of applicants and want a faster first step for candidates.

  • The signals you care about most are personality, work scenarios, or environment fit rather than spoken answers.

  • Candidates for the role are less likely to record video, and you'd rather keep the screen short than lose them.

  • You plan to talk to a shortlist live later, and only need enough signal to decide who makes that list.

You stay in control either way: Truffle scores and surfaces the signals, and you decide who advances.
