If your screening includes a video interview, you can blur what's behind you or replace it with a custom image. It's entirely optional, and you set it once during your device check, before recording starts.
Turning on background blur
During the Run a quick device check step, right before your video interview begins, you'll see a Background card next to your camera preview with three options: None, Blur, and Upload image. Select Blur to soften whatever's behind you.
Using a custom background image
Instead of blur, you can select Upload image to replace your background with a photo of your choosing (JPG, PNG, or WebP, up to 5 MB). Once you've uploaded one, the option is labeled Custom, and you can select Replace image to swap it for a different photo. Text or details in your uploaded image may look reversed in your own preview; your interviewer sees it the right way round.
Availability on your device
Background blur and custom backgrounds are only available for video interviews, not audio-only interviews, and not on mobile phones or tablets. Truffle also briefly checks that your device and browser can keep up before showing the option. If it can't, you'll see a message that background blur and custom backgrounds aren't available on this device. You can still continue your interview normally with your real background.
Once you start recording
Your background choice applies to the whole interview. You can't change it once recording starts. Choose None, Blur, or your custom image during the device check, and it carries through every question without you needing to set it again.
