AI personalization is the role brief: three short questions you answer on Step 1 (Define the role) that teach Truffle's AI what matters for this position. Your answers feed into resume criteria, interview question suggestions, and every candidate's match score and summary. Answer them on Step 1, or review and edit them later from the Role brief card on Step 4 (Review and activate).
The three questions
Truffle asks three questions designed to sharpen the AI's evaluation criteria for this specific role.
What does winning look like in the first 90 days?. Concrete outcomes and milestones. "Has taken ownership of their first project and delivered a measurable result."
Who would nail this position?. Traits and working style that fit the role. "Someone who picks things up fast and asks good questions early."
Who would struggle, even if their resume looks great?. Mismatches to watch for. "Someone who needs a well-defined process to operate effectively."
Aim for at least 12 words per answer. Shorter answers still save — Truffle just shows a note that a bit more detail helps.
How your answers shape AI evaluation
Your role brief answers feed the same context Truffle's AI uses to draft resume criteria, suggest interview questions, and score and summarize candidates. The effect:
Match score. Candidates are scored against your specific criteria for this role, not a generic template.
Candidate summaries. The AI summary on each candidate's profile reflects the traits and outcomes you described. If you said someone should be "comfortable pushing back on leadership", the summary notes whether the candidate demonstrated that.
Resume criteria and interview questions. The same answers help Truffle draft resume-screening criteria and suggest relevant interview questions for the position.
Editing after activation
You can edit your role brief answers after the position is live: reopen Step 1 from the position editor, or click Edit on the Role brief card on Step 4. Changes apply to new candidate evaluations only. Past match scores and summaries don't regenerate. If you want to rescore existing candidates after a significant change, contact support.
When to skip the role brief
The role brief is optional. Truffle will score candidates without it, using defaults derived from your position description. Skip it if:
The role is genuinely generic (same-day hire for a high-volume position with broad criteria).
You're testing the product and will delete the position.
For roles you actually plan to fill, a few minutes answering these three questions is worth it. Match scores get noticeably more relevant.
