For candidates seeing a Network Error during a Truffle interview.
If you're seeing a Network Error, don't panic — it almost always points to a temporary problem with your internet connection or browser settings, not your interview. Work through the quick fixes below first, then the deeper steps if you're still stuck.
Safety note: Truffle will never ask you to install software or run scripts to complete your interview. If something prompts you to, it isn't us — let us know.
Quick fixes to try first
Most network errors clear up with one of these:
Refresh the page — press
Cmd + R(Mac) orCtrl + R(Windows) to reload and restart the connection.Test your internet — open a new tab and visit any website to confirm you're online.
Use Google Chrome — Truffle works best in the latest version; if you're on another browser, try switching.
Restart your device — a quick reboot resolves many minor network hiccups.
Disable VPNs or security extensions — privacy tools sometimes block key functions; turn them off temporarily.
Check your internet speed
A slow connection is the most common cause. Visit fast.com or speedtest.net and confirm you have at least 5 Mbps upload and download. If you don't:
Move closer to your Wi-Fi router
Switch to a wired connection
Use your mobile hotspot as a backup
Clear your browser cache
Outdated data can interfere with how Truffle loads. To clear it in Chrome:
Click the three dots in the top-right corner.
Go to More tools → Clear browsing data.
Select Cached images and files and Cookies and other site data.
Click Clear data, then restart Chrome.
Disable browser extensions
Ad blockers, VPNs, and privacy extensions can block essential interview tools. To disable them in Chrome:
Click the three dots.
Go to Extensions → Manage Extensions.
Toggle off anything that might interfere (you can turn them back on later).
Try another device or network
If you're still stuck, switch it up — your progress is saved:
Move to a different device (laptop, phone, or tablet).
Change networks (for example, from Wi-Fi to a mobile hotspot).
