Duplicate an interview in Truffle

Save hours by copying existing interviews to create new positions with similar requirements or test different question sets.

Updated over a month ago

Stop rebuilding interviews from scratch. When you need to hire for similar roles or want to test different screening approaches, duplicating lets you copy an existing interview and modify it for your new needs. Your original interview stays untouched while you customize the copy.

Why duplicate an interview

  • Hire for similar roles: Copy your Software Engineer interview to create one for Senior Software Engineer.

  • Test different questions: Compare candidate quality with different screening approaches.

  • Create seasonal variations: Duplicate and adjust for holiday hiring or internship programs.

  • Build department templates: Create a master interview that teams can duplicate and customize.

  • Preserve successful setups: Keep interviews that worked well as templates for future use.

How to duplicate an interview

Note: You can only duplicate interviews that are active.

  1. Navigate to Manage Interviews from your Truffle dashboard.

  2. Find the interview you want to duplicate in your interview list.

  3. Click the three-dot menu icon (⋯) on the right side of the interview row.

  4. Select Duplicate from the dropdown menu.

Once selected, Truffle creates an exact copy and the duplicated interview appears as a draft.

Note: Duplicated interviews start in Draft status even if the original is Active. This prevents accidental publishing before you make your changes.

What does and doesn't get duplicated

When you duplicate an interview, Truffle copies:

  • Position title and description.

  • All interview questions and their order.

  • Response configuration (video/audio, time limits, thinking time, retake settings).

  • Qualification questions if present.

  • AI personalization responses.

  • Brand customization (logo, colors, messages).

  • Welcome and completion messages.

These elements remain unique to each interview:

  • Candidate responses: The new interview starts fresh with zero applicants.

  • Interview links: Each interview gets its own unique sharing URL.

  • Status: Duplicates always start as Draft regardless of the original's status.

  • Creation date: Shows when you duplicated, not when the original was created.

Important: Integrations need to be reconfigured for the duplicated interview.

Best practices for duplicating interviews

Create reusable templates

Build master interviews for common role types:

  • Entry-level positions with basic behavioral questions.

  • Customer-facing positions with communication scenarios.

  • Leadership roles with situational judgment questions.

Use consistent naming

Develop a naming convention for duplicated interviews:

  • Include the department: "Sales - Account Executive"

  • Add the location: "Software Engineer - NYC"

  • Note the version: "Marketing Manager v2"

  • Mark templates: "TEMPLATE - Customer Success"

How many times can I duplicate the same interview?

There's no limit. Duplicate interviews as many times as needed. Each duplicate is independent, so changes to one won't affect the others.

Can I duplicate an interview that's currently active?

Yes, you can duplicate active interviews. The duplicate will be created in Draft status, allowing you to make changes without affecting the live interview.

Will candidates who applied to the original interview see the duplicate?

No, duplicated interviews are completely separate. Candidates who applied to the original won't have access to or awareness of the duplicated version.

Can I merge responses from a duplicated interview back to the original?

No, interviews maintain separate candidate pools.

What happens to the duplicate if I delete the original interview?

Nothing. Once duplicated, interviews are independent. Deleting the original won't affect any duplicates you've created.

Can I duplicate just the questions without the other settings?

Not directly through the duplicate feature. Duplication copies everything. However, you can duplicate the interview and then edit the settings you don't want to keep.

Do duplicated interviews count toward my plan limits?

Yes, each duplicated interview counts as a separate interview in your account, just like creating a new one from scratch.
