  • How the AI catalogue works (and why three catalogue questions are recommended)

  • Adding, swapping, reordering, or deleting questions

  • Best‑practice tips for custom prompts

  • How edits affect matching and candidate scoring

Where to find the editor

  1. Create or open a job > Screening step

  2. The question list sits under Screening questions – AI recommended

  3. Click edit in the right hand corner and then choose swap or delete

  4. Click + Add a question at the bottom to open the full catalogue modal

Understanding the AI‑recommended set

  • Truffle proposes five behaviour‑based questions pulled from roles with thousands of successful hires.

  • The first three are recommended for advanced matching; they are tied closely to our analysis models.

  • You can swap any of the five for another catalogue item that fits better—just keep at least three catalogue questions in the final set.

Tip: Catalogue questions carry hidden rubrics and keyword triggers that feed match scores. Custom prompts are not auto‑analyzed.

Swapping a catalogue question

  1. Click the swap icon (🔄) on the row you want to replace.

  2. In the Add/Swap Screener Question modal, stay on Use template.

  3. Filter by Behaviour / Technical / Situational / Values tags or search a keyword.

  4. Click a question to preview; hit Save to replace it in the list.

Reordering

Drag‑and‑drop the six‑dot handle on the left of each row to set the sequence. Earlier questions get slightly higher weight in our scoring algorithm.

Deleting

Click the delete icon. If you drop below three catalogue questions, a warning banner appears and advanced matching is paused until you add another.

Adding a custom question

  1. Click + Add a question > Custom question tab.

  2. Follow the yellow box guidelines:

    • Focus on one skill or scenario per prompt

    • Keep wording job‑relevant and free of protected characteristics

    • 150‑character limit keeps it snappy for mobile users

  3. Hit Create & add.

Limitations: Custom questions are stored for reuse but are not included in automated matching. They still display to reviewers and can be rated manually.

Best‑practice checklist

  • Start broad, then funnel – open with motivation/fit, end with scenario specifics.

  • Two minutes answer time fits human attention and model accuracy.

  • Avoid leading language (“What makes you a perfect fit…”) to reduce bias.

  • Mirror Intake traits – trace each prompt back to a success criterion or X‑factor you defined earlier.

FAQs

Why do you recommend three catalogue questions?
Our AI models rely on trained rubrics; fewer than three reduces signal‑to‑noise.

Can I convert a custom question to be scored later?
Yes—ping support and we’ll tag it for matching with a 24‑hour turnaround.

What happens if I delete all questions?
You’ll see a blocking warning; at least one question is required to move forward.
